Did I say that I had an interview coming today?  Well I got it.  It was an informative review of Simple Six Figures and I know you will have a better understanding of what it is all about.

I learned a few things about recording interviews too :)   For example Pretty May Call recorder for Skype – it’s free – for 15 minutes.  That was a pain I had to hang up with Paul and start a new call – twice.  So in the end I have 3 audio segments maxed at 15 minutes.  After the call I went and found out that pretty may call recorder – costs $25.  Small price to pay.  I should have seen that ahead of time.

Anyway the first thing I did when I got off the phone was to try and start editing out my mistakes – I am ignorant.  Audio editing is not for me.  That was the next thing I learned.  So I promptly went t0 Elance to find me an audio editor. It took all of 30 minutes to have no less than 5 people to choose from -WILD!  I chose a Christian guy (Didn’t know that until after we connected of course) who is working on the tracks now.  I will let you know how it comes out – you will get to hear it of course :)

Lessons I learned…..

Always have an outline.

If you are someone who is easily distracted – you need an outline.  I was very glad I did.  Not only did it help me keep focused but I was able to give it to paul ahead of time so I wasn’t throwing him any curve balls.  Now the advice I got ahead of time was really funny.  I asked his cohort Mark – “here are some questions.  Do they seem appropriate?  Would you suggest something else at all?”  And I got this back from Mark

If you’re willing to do an interview, I think Paul is an “easy interview”.   All you have to do is have some questions and he can take that and run with it.  He has no problem talking. :-)

You know something?  Mark was right.  Paul had no trouble – he was really on top of things.  He probably didn’t need my outline ahead of time but it is a good courtesy I would suggest you take the time to do.

Calm Down

I was a nervous wreck.  I had never done an interview before – it was fun, but I was all over the place with my thoughts and I really felt that I was concentrating so much on the next question, how to talk, and so much more – I needed to calm down.  Hopefully the audio editor will be able to clean me up a little :)

Don’t worry about mistakes – too much

Mistakes happen we know that – but the great thing about a one on one audio and NOT a live call – we can edit out our mistakes.  I didn’t try to count the number of times I got flustered and just said – Paul – I’m lost I want to try that again.  We stopped, I spoke aloud to remove that portion, I asked the question again (hopefully as close to the original tone as I was) and we moved forward.

Of course you want to practice NOT making mistakes – but if you do – deal with it and move on.

Ask for advice

Make sure you ask for feedback immediately following your interview.   If your interviewee is willing and you are pretty new to this – Make Sure You Ask.  My feedback is on recording so I can go back and look at it.  Of course it will be cut from the posted interview :)

So what are you going to do now?  Go set up an interview!  Call people in your niche that you feel will be helpful – not only to you but To Your Readers.  After all it is more for them then it is for you.

God Bless!

Chris
